Expression:
To root / To be rooted.
Definition:
To be grounded in your centre, energetically. A cultivated backdrop of clarity, calmness and presence. It serves as a baseline for acting with sober intention in the world. A place free from urgency, external pressures, and the need for validation.
Living Example:
On Saturday, I could either go out to the bar, or stay home. Even though part of me wanted to socialise, my energy was scattered. If I went out, I’d be fragile, and more susceptible to depletion than nourishment. I wasn’t fully rooted in myself. So I stayed home, and ended up rooting the entire weekend, in stillness, and peace.
Casual:
“I like Philip. He’s not very rooted though. He’s always dangling around. Bless him.”
Why This Matters:
Giving name to the concept of rooting allows us to wield a response to a world built on pressure, urgency, and validation loops. Rootedness is what allows you stay inside your own signal. To feel without being consumed. To relate without merging. It’s the difference between being led by fear, and being led by your own truth. Between living through noise, and emanating presence. Without being rooted, your life is built around performance. Your energy leaks. Your timing fractures. And you try to win the world instead of meeting it. With rootedness, you become a sober force. You access the still, deep part of you that already knows, and from there, you can create, relate, refuse, acknowledge, or walk away. Right now, when everything’s moving and changing fast, rooting is how I stay with myself. It’s not extra. It’s baseline.
About the Glossary:
The New Earth Glossary is a growing, intuitive archive of expressions that describe the felt, often-unspoken energetics of being human in changing times. Each expression names something I have recently experienced personally, and perhaps you have too. Or maybe you will begin to notice it now. If you do, message me. Or tell me about it next time we cross paths.
